The friendship between Benedikt and Canadian drummer Owen Howard reaches back many years to when Benedikt was a student of Owen's at the University of Fine Art in Berlin. Owen has been on the cutting edge of the New York scene for the past 20 years. A native of Edmonton, he has been passionate about drumming since the age of 15 and has gone on to perform with many of the great players around the world. Antonio Miguel from Spain met Benedikt at the City College in New York and through many jam sessions, their musical relationship became established. Antonio has played with the likes of Paquito D'Rivera and Rick Margitza.
The music of the Benedikt Jahnel Trio is sensitive, creative and intelligently engaging while remaining completely accessible and beautiful. This will be one of those memorable nights in the studio theatre that patrons of JazzFest have come to relish.
